Digital immersion, a larger-than-life experience
The idea behind immersive art is simple: immerse the viewer in artwork by engaging their senses to create a new perspective.
The technique involves projecting high-resolution videos onto walls and floors to create a 360-degree effect. Powerful video projectors and video mapping software transform the space by following the contours of surfaces to create an illusion of motion and depth. Audio systems then add surround sound to enhance the immersive art experience. You'll find yourself standing in the middle of the artist's work.
State-of-the-art digital tech animates the immersive paintings for an interactive whole-body experience. You'll get to walk among the paintings and become part of the story for a thrilling way to interact with iconic artists' masterpieces.
Atelier des Lumières: where immersive art in Paris comes to life
Atelier des Lumières is a unique venue in a former 19th-century foundry. This exhibition space perfectly blends its industrial past with digital art. The site's architecture, with its 10-metre-high walls, metal structures and large brick fireplace, provides an impressive 3,270 m² setting for immersive projections.
Thanks to Atelier des Lumières' exhibitions, the world's best art comes to life. Among the most famous is Van Gogh's, Starry Night, a projection that plunges the visitor into the artist's tormented yet striking visuals. Gustav Klimt's works provide another jaw-dropping experience, thanks to the artist's gilding, iconic patterns and powerful images. In 2024, the Egyptian Pharaohs exhibition guided visitors into the mysterious heart of Ancient Egypt. Comic fans will be pleased to know that cartoon characters also take pride of place! Enter the worlds of Tintin and Asterix while they recount their adventures on the walls of our immersive museum.
